As my time in La IUPI comes to an end, I want my last written words to be in reminiscence and gratitude. Although I’m so done with my classes and can’t wait for the semester to be over so I can finally start my student teaching practice, I can’t help but feel this little pang of something in my heart that I can’t seem to name just yet.

These last four years have been a rollercoaster — I won’t deny it — and stress was the main character throughout the lengthy journey. However, its unyielding presence did not overpower the happy and beautiful moments.

Even though my first two years of college were highly affected by the COVID pandemic, and the whole not-being-present-on-campus thing was a hassle, I still managed to have those formative experiences that shaped me into the person I am today.

I met wonderful people and amazing professionals. My amazing English and Literature professors reignited my love for reading; my Humanities professors reminded me how much I love to dissect our past to learn how it affects our present and future; and those who guided me through my major encouraged me to continue being my creative and most kind self, not only to and for the wonderful children I have helped through various teaching-learning experiences, but also to and for my peers and loved ones.

I became associated with amazing organizations like AsER, and found a home in Her Campus; a home for the last 3 or so years of my life. I have no idea how I’m going to let go of such a special association that has not only helped me discover my writing voice but also share it with others. They’re an amazing chapter that isn’t just about magazine publishing, HC helped me grow and unlock my full potential — starting off as a writer, then working my way up to Vice President (I still can’t believe that one). The bonding events provided me a safe space to be myself. And lastly, but most importantly, to the members and staff alike, both former and past, who defined this experience, thank you. This last one is for you.

I recall putting together a baby shower for one of my professors and making beautiful class projects that definitely took way too long and a whole lot of work but I am so proud of. Those arduous mile-long walks from and to my parking spot. Laughing and yelling in the library cubicle that was originally reserved for a study session. I remember making friends and losing some. My field trips — shoutout to Guatemala! Finding new hobbies, likes, and icks. Finding my strengths and learning to overcome my weaknesses — which is a process I will continue to do while exploring them in other aspects of my life.

I learned that it was the little things that made it all worthwhile because they shaped me into the person I am today.

I made it my mission to try and summarize the best moments of my college experience in this article. Maybe because it’s the best way to say goodbye. Maybe because by capturing it all in a page, it will live forever — not just in me but in everyone who reads it. Nonetheless, I will treasure this journey and all its adventures with their varying emotions and depth either way.

I will address you, the reader, now, and I’d like to share some words of wisdom:

You remember that one OneRepublic song “I Lived“? Not to be cheesy, but carry it in your heart and know that someday it will resonate with you as much as it does with me right now.

Your college experience, no matter how hard it is or will be, won’t be based solely on your academic development and achievements. It’ll be defined by the memories, life lessons, and connections that you make. It’s in your hands how you choose to carry these experiences with you the rest of your life.

Farewell, IUPI. Farewell, Her Campus. Thanks to you, I’m one step closer to taking on the challenges of adulthood.
