Finals season can be brutal, but you’ve got this! Between endless notes, too much caffeine and a lack of sleep, it can be easy to put wellness on the back burner. But taking care of yourself is just as important as your exams. Maintaining proper wellness is much needed for your mental and physical well being to help stay focused and energized. Here are five wellness tips to help you keep that exam stress in check.

1. Try a fitness class

At times, it can feel like there isn’t enough time for a quick workout, but that’s far from the truth. Dedicating just 30-45 minutes of physical activity can do wonders for both your body and mind. Not only does working out keep you fit, it also reduces stress and improves your focus.

There are countless options to help you get moving, such as yoga, spin, dance, pilates, weightlifting, etc. Each workout offers something unique so it depends on your fitness goals!

My personal favourite is spin – the energetic vibes, the music and the challenge makes it so rewarding. When you leave class, there is just a rush of endorphins making you ready to take on studying.

Regardless of what you choose, it is most important to find a workout that brings you joy and works as a stress reliever during exam season. Making time for even just a short workout in your room can help clear your mind for your next study session.

2. Take a walk

Now this one is quite simple, but it’s definitely effective!

Sometimes, a walk is all you need to reset and clear your mind. Whether it’s a quick five-minute walk or an hour-long stroll, some fresh air can do wonders for your mood.

Put on a pair of headphones, turn on your favourite playlist or podcast, and go for a hot girl walk! Bonus points if you romanticize your walk with a cute outfit or a matching set.

3. Run a bath

Taking a bath is definitely one of the most relaxing things in my opinion – especially after a long day of studying. There is nothing better than quite literally soaking away the stress!

I like to light some candles, add essential oils, and throw in a bath bomb for the ultimate spa experience. Adding lavender or eucalyptus would help you unwind even more. I also definitely recommend filling up an ice-cold water bottle!

Now, just grab your favourite book, turn on some music, or put on a face mask! Or honestly, do all of the above – you deserve it!

4. Power nap

Taking a 20-30 minute power nap actually has many benefits, and unlike a traditional nap, a quick power nap shouldn’t leave you feeling groggy.

Harvard Health released a study on the benefit of power naps, stating naps can enhance your mood, reduce fatigue, and improve alertness.

So set an alarm and hit snooze from your work for a little while. You should feel much more energized and ready to take on your studies.

5. cut down on the caffeine

I love caffeine just as much as the next person, but it isn’t always the answer when it comes to exam season.

According to Verywell Mind, caffeine increases cortisol levels—the stress hormone—which can heighten anxiety.

Instead, drink more water and as an exam reward you could buy a cute new water bottle to keep you feeling extra hydrated!

Hopefully trying some of these tips will make finals season feel a little less stressful. Remember to prioritize breaks and be kind to yourself!
